This is our last segment for our February Real Bride Ashlan! We've loved having you as a part of our Once Upon A Time Weddings family Ashlan--thank you for choosing us when planning your big day.
Ashlan and Paul got married on August 27, 2016 and they've both shared some of their favourite memories from that day.
What's your favourite memory from your wedding day?
Ashlan: "I am so glad that we agreed to do a first look. Getting to see him, standing there in his suit, waiting for me. It melted my heart. I love that our first real moment of the day was getting to see each other, hold each other, and just take it all in together before anyone else. Your wedding day goes by so fast, and having a moment that is just your own is so memorable."
Paul: "We accidentally forgot the key to our Bed and Breakfast, so we ended up sleeping at home the night of our wedding. While at the time we were disappointed, it seemed to work out ok in the end. You see, my family, my best friend and his girlfriend were here from England for the wedding, and staying at home gave us more time to visit before everyone headed back to the UK in the morning. We ended up getting our rehearsal dinner photos that night, so it was really a nice memory to have – sitting on our couch all together and going through the photos. It wasn’t the plan, but it ended up being the best thing."
Who were your favourite vendors from your wedding day?
"You may regret asking this! We were extremely fortunate to have worked with many talented vendors that made our wedding into a day we will never forget. We were so thankful for each and everyone of them, but some special mentions:
Our photographer, Cynthia of One-12 Photography and her second shooter, Kendal Hunt. The memories they have given us for the rest of our life are irreplaceable. They were really great to work with.
Our florist and decorator, Ruth Huston and her team from Mount Brydges Floral. I tell Ruth all the time that she was like my fairy Godmother – she just knew everything that needed to be done, and executed every last detail flawlessly (even ones I hadn’t thought of). She was my saving grace and allowed us to really enjoy our day.
Our venue, Arrowwood Farm owned by Kathy and Phil Moddle – I don’t know that I have enough words to truly send our thanks to them. We built a really unique and special relationship over the 18 months that we were planning. Our food, the property, their family and their team – we couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else and the farm will always hold a special place in our hearts. We return often!
Our wedding cake was from Grandma’s Oven and was pure perfection; Martha’s team is extremely talented; as a baker, it was tough finding someone who met my expectations. But they exceeded them! Those perfect little details that made our day stand out and really speak to who we are included stunning antique furniture rentals from Tarin at Found Décor Company, and our unbelievably talented vendor for stationary, Kerri from RSVP Stationary.
I also need to give a shout out to Annie and Luke of Ivory Hours, who welcomed our guests with the most beautiful music, sang me down the aisle, and poured their hearts out in a rendition of “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran that I will hold forever in my heart! And of course, I can’t forget my unbelievable beauty team. I was so lucky to have them for both our engagement photos and our wedding – Amy Cartmell of Coiffeuse a la Cart (hair), Alanna of MUA by A (makeup) and Denise of Tan Bar (who helped me fix an accidental burn just in time for our big day!)"
Are there any other unique details or stories about your wedding/love story you want to tell us?
"Our two dogs, Luna and Dexter, are really important to us. Our neighbours were kind enough to bring them out to the ceremony to do photos together. We also had a "dog table" which included beautiful custom dog cookies from Bosco and Roxy's and custom designed Jones Soda bottles; there was a label with Luna, and a label with Dexter!..."
"...My grandfather passed away in 1995, and he was sincerely the best grandpa a little girl could ask for. He and my grandmother are so special to me. I had a charm made for my bouquet out of their wedding photo. I did a "first look" with my grandmother before the ceremony to show her the charm. I told her that I wanted him to be there too...It was so special for us. I also wore my moms jewelry that my dad gave her when they got married; it meant a lot to my parents and I loved the thought of continuing it's tradition of love! I tell Paul all the time, "I love our love story". His wedding gift to me was actually a book he had made with many of our favourite stories and details of our life together - it was very sweet. I was so fortunate to find him and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with him!"
