October Real Bride | Jordan's Dress

Jordan said yes to the dress on October 4th, 2016 with her mom! She had actually shopped once at our store before and fell in love her dress but, she wanted to come back with her mom before saying yes! She also made a custom change when she decided to add the beading in the top of the dress extend throughout the whole gown. We love Jordan's unique story and can't wait for you to read it!

"My mom."

Were you expecting to purchase your dress when you came in for your appointment?

"I actually wasn't even dress shopping when I visited. It was a spur of the moment decision driving by on the 402 and I decided to stop and see what they had since a friend recommended it to me."
JordanDress6.jpg

Was the dress you bought similar to what you came in thinking you wanted?

"It had a few similarities."
We love this shot of the subtle sparkle in her dress that she extended all the way to the bottom!

What did your (now) husband think of your dress?

"I was blown away on how amazing her dress was! Very Stunning! I loved how the dress curved to her body and was very elegant like in a dream." -Ryan

How was your experience at Once Upon A Time Weddings?

"It was a great experience. I loved how laid back and comfortable they made me feel. There was no pressure from them to purchase a dress and that made it a lot easier to make a decision. I also loved how easy it was to make changes to the dress when ordering - I chose a different colour and added extra beading throughout the dress. Having the flexibility to make it your own is special."

Is there anything else you want to tell us about your story to finding the dress?

"I had to visit twice because my mother-in-law was with me the first time when I found the dress and I couldn't make a decision without my mom seeing it first. After I went home I couldn't stop thinking about the dress, which was different from all the other dresses I had tried on so before. I knew this one was going to be the one. I ended up coming back a few days later with my mom and we said yes to the dress on my second visit."

How did the two of you meet?

"At Oliver Stephens Public school. I was in grade 6 and Ryan was in grade 7."

How'd you know your fiancé was the one?

"We had a long distance relationship for a while in the beginning. Ryan lived in Yellowknife, NT and I lived in Waterloo, ON. I was just finished university and trying to decide what my plans were going to be since I graduated. I was on my way to a friend's buck and doe and I called Ryan and it went straight to voicemail, which was really weird since he never has his phone off. About 2 hours later I am standing in the hall full of people and he came up behind me and surprised me! This was the first time I had seen him in just over 4 months. I knew that night he was the one I wanted to spend my life with."

How did your fiancé propose? (from the brides point of view)

"We were volunteering at an Elephant rescue camp in Thailand. This was my second visit to one of my favourite places in the world and brought Ryan with me this time. Just before we were going back to have lunch we stopped for a break in the field on this raised bamboo platform to cool off a bit since it was really muggy out. We were sitting there relaxing, watching the elephants and he pulled out a ring from his backpack and asked me to marry him! I couldn't believe that he brought a ring with him all the way to Southeast Asia and that this was really happening. It was perfect!"

How did you propose? (from the grooms point of view)

"I was planning on proposing on our trip to south east Asia, in hopes that we were going to be going to an elephant nature park rescue program. We started looking while we were down in Thailand (Not a good idea by the way) but nothing was available. At this point I was getting very anxious as I knew that was going to be the way to sweep her off her feet and how I wanted to propose. I started calling and e-mailing trying to get something figured out and finally I had received a response from Elephant Haven in Sai Yok Kanchanaburi, Thailand saying they had just opened this park and that we were able to go and attend for a whole day. We arrived at the park early in the morning after a short drive to find out that we were going to be the only volunteers at the park. This was just about the best news I could have herd since I wanted this to be extra special. They gave us the agenda on what we would be doing all day, this was the point I was trying to figure out the best time to ask for my now wife to marry me. With my backpack close and ring ready to be unloaded I finally found my opening. We had just finished a small trek in the forest and came to a clearing to take a short break. There was long grass everywhere with elephants grazing all around us. There was a small hut to keep us out of the sun where all the elephant handlers were. Then i started to talk... I said " I love you soo much!" she responded " I love elephants soo much!". I must have mumbled since I was the most nervous I have ever been in my life. I then strayed from my prepared speech i had been going over and over in my head to only say this, as I was pulling the ring out from my backpack... I said, "This is going to be the moment I propose to you!" I pulled out the ring and opened the box and said an even smaller blurb which I cannot remember since my adrenaline was pumping. In an instant she was crying and reluctantly said yes! I had later found out that we were the first volunteers at the park and of course the first people to get engaged there. This memory will last a lifetime for me as a definite highlight."

September Real Bride | Jordan + Andy

SeptRBCover.png

Hello September! We are excited to announce our September Real Bride Jordan Freitas and her hubby Andy. You can just see the love these two share in their gorgeous engagement pictures, we hope you enjoy reading about their love story just as much as we did!

How did the two of you meet?

"On St Patty's Day at a friends party."

How did you know Andy was the one?

"As soon as he came in my life, he changed it for the better. It was like a switch went off "so this is what love is supposed to feel like". I knew I wanted to spend all of my days with him, good or bad. We share the same values, he makes me laugh, and loves all the parts of who I am, as I do for him."

How did Andy propose? (Brides point of view)

"(Backstory) When it got to that point in our relationship to start talking about the next step and living arrangements, I had told Andy that I've always wanted be married before moving in together. I liked that old-fashioned aspect. As time went on I realized it wasn't that important to me as long as we were together, whether we were engaged or just dating. We ended up finding a home together, and a thought of a ring had completely left my mind as we were saving up for the move into our first home. We hadn't even talked about it. So it came to an absolute surprise to me that as I opened the door into my house, there was a row of rose petals leading up the stairs and into our soon to be bedroom, with "Will U Marry Me" painted on the wall, and Andy down on one knee!"
Engagement2.JPG

Andy, how did you propose? (Grooms point of view)

"We had just bought a house and got the keys for the first day. Jordan was working so I picked up the keys and headed over to the house. We were gonna paint the walls of some rooms so I decided to write on the bedroom wall "Will you marry me?". She came home and I had put rose pedals in the entrance leading to the bedroom where I was waiting."
