Engagement

How To Enjoy Being Engaged.

So you’re engaged?!

A lot of brides find themselves wishing their big day was just here already. Or they spend so much time fielding questions about their wedding and listening to other opinions on what they should do at their wedding, that they lose some of their excitement.

So we came up with some ways for you to spend time enjoying being engaged. After all, it’s such a short time in comparison to the rest of your life. You really want to capitalize on the excitement and soak up every moment as a fiancé.

1) Throw an engagement party! Celebrate this huge step in your relationship with all your friends and family! It's not a hassle for anyone, people love a reason to celebrate and get together. Find some cute decorations and get to celebrating!

2) Take engagement photos! This is a super fun way to celebrate with just the two of you. You get to dress up and be all lovey dovey for the pictures! You can even make a date night out of it! If you choose to do them with your wedding photographer it gives you an extra chance to get to know them and their style before your wedding day.

3) Get some fiancé swag!  The best part of being engaged? Showing off that new status. It’s the perfect excuse to buy a wifey in training t-shirt, bride water bottle, or new wifey-to-be mugs. Cause why not?!

Are you recently engaged and starting to look for your dream dress? Look no further!

We'd love for you to book your wedding gown experience today!

Here’s what recent bride Stephanie said about her experience at OUTW.

I had been to 5 other stores before finally making the trip out to Once Upon A Time, and I was blown away by the difference here! The care, attention, and effort that they put into making sure each bride has a great experience was completely unique and refreshing. Definitely worth the visit - even if they don't have the dress for you, it's a wonderful, personalized experience that will remind you of how wedding dress shopping is supposed to be :)

Advice From a Past Bride | Racheal Taylor

We are starting a new and fun feature on our blog today and we couldn't be more excited!!! Wedding planning can be stressful so we thought it would be helpful to share advice from brides who have been there! Get some real life advice from everyday people who have planned their wedding.

Today, we chatted with Racheal Taylor who got married on September 13th of 2014 and we are loving her real and raw advice! We hope you enjoy this new feature and get some helpful hints for your own wedding planning!

2014

What is the biggest piece of advice you would give a newly engaged bride-to-be?

"My biggest piece of advice is PLAN AHEAD. I found this really helped keep me from being overwhelmed like I hear a lot of brides being while planning their wedding. I was able to enjoy planning my wedding, crafting up decor, all while expecting our first child to be due 3 months before our wedding."

What is the best advice you would give for a bride-to-be who is searching for her dream dress?

"Be open minded! I had an idea of what I liked in pictures, but tried EVERY style on even if I didn't think I would like the material, fit, colour etc. In the end I actually took an element from a each dress I tried on and was able to explain those things I really liked in each dress to the OUTW tribe and they had MY exact dress, all the details I had described."

What is the best advice you were given as a bride-to-be?

"I don't know if this counts as advice but I was being super cheap with my dress I had in my head $800 max. Not because we couldn't afford more but because I'm just normally a budget freak lol. My mother in law pushed me to up my budget a bit and voila my dress was found. My dream dress."

What is something you regret when wedding planning?

"Too big! We rented a HUGE hall with over 200 people and we both wish we scaled it down a bit for a more cozy wedding."

What is one thing you're glad you did when you were planning your wedding/engaged?

"I am so glad I included my mother in law as much as I did. She was a major help! We couldn't have planned / decorated our wedding without her!"

Is there anything else you'd want to tell a future bride?

"Enjoy this time. This is honestly one of the most exciting moments the days and months leading up to your wedding. It goes by in a blink. Plan ahead so you are not so stressed out with everything piling up at once. I'm just itching to plan our 10 year anniversary one day! I love party planning!"

September Real Bride | Jordan + Andy

SeptRBCover.png

Hello September! We are excited to announce our September Real Bride Jordan Freitas and her hubby Andy. You can just see the love these two share in their gorgeous engagement pictures, we hope you enjoy reading about their love story just as much as we did!

How did the two of you meet?

"On St Patty's Day at a friends party."

How did you know Andy was the one?

"As soon as he came in my life, he changed it for the better. It was like a switch went off "so this is what love is supposed to feel like". I knew I wanted to spend all of my days with him, good or bad. We share the same values, he makes me laugh, and loves all the parts of who I am, as I do for him."

How did Andy propose? (Brides point of view)

"(Backstory) When it got to that point in our relationship to start talking about the next step and living arrangements, I had told Andy that I've always wanted be married before moving in together. I liked that old-fashioned aspect. As time went on I realized it wasn't that important to me as long as we were together, whether we were engaged or just dating. We ended up finding a home together, and a thought of a ring had completely left my mind as we were saving up for the move into our first home. We hadn't even talked about it. So it came to an absolute surprise to me that as I opened the door into my house, there was a row of rose petals leading up the stairs and into our soon to be bedroom, with "Will U Marry Me" painted on the wall, and Andy down on one knee!"

Andy, how did you propose? (Grooms point of view)

"We had just bought a house and got the keys for the first day. Jordan was working so I picked up the keys and headed over to the house. We were gonna paint the walls of some rooms so I decided to write on the bedroom wall "Will you marry me?". She came home and I had put rose pedals in the entrance leading to the bedroom where I was waiting."

August Real Bride | Alexa and Ryan Wallace

August is here and so is a new Once Upon A Time Weddings Real Bride! We are excited for you all to get to know Alexa and Ryan Wallace over the next 3 weeks. These two had known each other for 13 years before getting engaged which is why you can't help but see the happiness and love radiating off them in all their engagement pictures! Start scrolling to read all about their proposal!

How did the two of you meet?

"We met about 13 years ago in high school through a mutual friend (now our brother-in-law!)."

How'd you know your fiancé was the one?

"There was no big "a-ha" moment or anything like that. We've been together so long (6 years as a couple and 13 years as friends) that it's all those little moments and challenges and memories collected over time that make you realize you want this person in your life forever."

How did your fiancé propose? (from the brides point of view)

"We were planning a fifth year anniversary getaway to Huntsville for a few days, all winter activities like skating and snowmobiling. Then no snow in Ontario! We were going to cancel the trip then Ryan suggested we drive to Montreal, somewhere I've wanted to visit for a long time, so we re-booked some things and left on Boxing Day. On our first full day there we went for a walk up Mont Royal and found a quiet trail and he proposed! I honestly was surprised, which to this day he still doesn't believe, but we had looked for rings about a year prior and I was so excited then, and then nothing! So I told myself to stop anticipating it happening and just enjoy your moments together, so it was a lovely surprise!"

How did you propose? (from the grooms point of view)

"We planned a trip for our five year anniversary to Montreal, a last minute change of plans. We had talked about hiking up Mont Royal so on the first day after breakfast I suggested we do that first thing, I had bought the ring about 7 or 8 months before and was tired of trying to hide it! We found a trail off the main path and when we paused at a lookout I proposed and she said yes."

We can't wait for you to join us next week to hear all about how Alexa said yes to the dress!
