London ontario wedding

Interview with MUA Nicole Dupuis

This month, we chatted with Nicole Dupuis over at Nicole Dupuis Artistry in London. She specializes in enhancing the bride's natural beauty! She is a such a sweet girl and we hope you enjoy learning more about her!

How long have you been doing make-up?

"6 months."

How far in advance does the Bride + Groom need to book your services?

"4-6 months out."

Do you offer a trial run? If so, how much extra does it cost and how far in advance do you like to do that?

"Yes! I always offer a trial. The cost is $25 and I usually do it a couple months in advance, sometimes more, depending on the bride's preference."
Helpful Hint: We know some of our brides have scheduled their trials on the day of their engagement shoots or their showers.  Gives them an opportunity to get dolled up & make sure they love their looks in photographs too!

Do you travel to the bride's venue location?

"Yes I do! Always."

How do you get a feel for what look the bride is going for?

"I always ask first if they have a look in mind and if they do they usually show me a picture. If not I ask what they wear for make up on a daily basis, what style of dress they are wearing and what the theme of the wedding is. I can generally get a pretty good idea based on that information what look to go with."

If the bride changes her mind about her bridal look, is there a charge for a re-trail?

Should the bride bring her veil and accessories to the trial?

"It's not necessary but if they would like to in order to better visualize the overall look they are more than welcome to do so!"

Do you like the bride to do any prep before you work your magic? (IE: Moisturize, apply primer...)

"Always moisturize the morning of! It's a good idea to use a facial scrub the night before as well. I will apply a primer before applying make up and depending on their skin I may moisturize again as well."

How much am I investing as a Bride?

"I charge a flat fee."

What sets you apart from other MUA in the area?

"Because I am a little bit newer to the industry I am more flexible with last minute bookings and I am willing to travel to the bride's home for not only the wedding, but also the trial. I love to enhance a person's natural beauty. So while I love to apply a false lash to any look, I also love a natural, flawless looking complexion that doesn't involve caking on too much product. This is something I feel I do very well."

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

"I love what I do! It doesn't feel like work when your job is making someone feel beautiful in their own skin. I'm excited to continue to grow and learn in this industry and I can't wait to meet more of my future brides!"

October Real Bride | Jordan and Ryan Zehr

Hello October! We are so excited to see all our fall brides this season and we can't wait for you to read all about Jordan and Ryan Zehr's love story today and throughout the month! We hope you enjoy meeting our real bride's as much as we have loved them becoming apart of our OUTW family!

How did the two of you meet?

"At Oliver Stephens Public school. I was in grade 6 and Ryan was in grade 7."

How'd you know your fiancé was the one?

"We had a long distance relationship for a while in the beginning. Ryan lived in Yellowknife, NT and I lived in Waterloo, ON. I was just finished university and trying to decide what my plans were going to be since I graduated. I was on my way to a friend's buck and doe and I called Ryan and it went straight to voicemail, which was really weird since he never has his phone off. About 2 hours later I am standing in the hall full of people and he came up behind me and surprised me! This was the first time I had seen him in just over 4 months. I knew that night he was the one I wanted to spend my life with."

How did your fiancé propose? (from the brides point of view)

"We were volunteering at an Elephant rescue camp in Thailand. This was my second visit to one of my favourite places in the world and brought Ryan with me this time. Just before we were going back to have lunch we stopped for a break in the field on this raised bamboo platform to cool off a bit since it was really muggy out. We were sitting there relaxing, watching the elephants and he pulled out a ring from his backpack and asked me to marry him! I couldn't believe that he brought a ring with him all the way to Southeast Asia and that this was really happening. It was perfect!"

How did you propose? (from the grooms point of view)

"I was planning on proposing on our trip to south east Asia, in hopes that we were going to be going to an elephant nature park rescue program. We started looking while we were down in Thailand (Not a good idea by the way) but nothing was available. At this point I was getting very anxious as I knew that was going to be the way to sweep her off her feet and how I wanted to propose. I started calling and e-mailing trying to get something figured out and finally I had received a response from Elephant Haven in Sai Yok Kanchanaburi, Thailand saying they had just opened this park and that we were able to go and attend for a whole day. We arrived at the park early in the morning after a short drive to find out that we were going to be the only volunteers at the park. This was just about the best news I could have herd since I wanted this to be extra special. They gave us the agenda on what we would be doing all day, this was the point I was trying to figure out the best time to ask for my now wife to marry me. With my backpack close and ring ready to be unloaded I finally found my opening. We had just finished a small trek in the forest and came to a clearing to take a short break. There was long grass everywhere with elephants grazing all around us. There was a small hut to keep us out of the sun where all the elephant handlers were. Then i started to talk... I said " I love you soo much!" she responded " I love elephants soo much!". I must have mumbled since I was the most nervous I have ever been in my life. I then strayed from my prepared speech i had been going over and over in my head to only say this, as I was pulling the ring out from my backpack... I said, "This is going to be the moment I propose to you!" I pulled out the ring and opened the box and said an even smaller blurb which I cannot remember since my adrenaline was pumping. In an instant she was crying and reluctantly said yes! I had later found out that we were the first volunteers at the park and of course the first people to get engaged there. This memory will last a lifetime for me as a definite highlight."
