Wedding Vendor

Spring is in the Air!

The weather has been too nice the past week not to start thinking about how spring is on the horizon, so we are exploring some 2018 spring wedding trend colours today! From invites to maids dresses picking a colour scheme for your Spring wedding should be fun and man are these colour schemes fun!

1. The watercolour theme really started to take off last year and is gaining even more momentum this year! We love the soft tones, whimsical atmosphere, and romantic feel this palette adds to wedding days. This gives you the traditional option of any colour you want with a spin on the softness or deep tones. Both, equally as beautiful.

2. What says "Spring" more than some floral prints!! This trend is so fun and we can't wait to see how brides bring them into their wedding's this Spring. It can be such an easy way to give your decor some texture without spending $1,000's of dollars on flower arrangements.

We love this idea of a floral print table cloth or runner to add vibrance to your table arrangements instead of spending all your energy on extravagant centrepieces.

Going for a simple wedding gown but still want to add some kind of pop to it? Why not do it with your shoes!! These floral heels are SURE to go down in history!

3. Pastels are something that never go out of style and look great in the Spring and Summer. Pick one pastel colour and stick to it or go for a palette of pastels; each are beautiful and timeless!

We adore the mismatch maid's dress trend and pastel's make it so easy to do this! How classy and beautiful are these maids dress colours?

And is there a bouquet that screams Spring any louder?!😍

And we can't forget about your groom! Pastels look dapper on him too!

Interview with MUA Nicole Dupuis

This month, we chatted with Nicole Dupuis over at Nicole Dupuis Artistry in London. She specializes in enhancing the bride's natural beauty! She is a such a sweet girl and we hope you enjoy learning more about her!

MUA8.jpg

How long have you been doing make-up?

"6 months."

How far in advance does the Bride + Groom need to book your services?

"4-6 months out."

Do you offer a trial run? If so, how much extra does it cost and how far in advance do you like to do that?

"Yes! I always offer a trial. The cost is $25 and I usually do it a couple months in advance, sometimes more, depending on the bride's preference."
Helpful Hint: We know some of our brides have scheduled their trials on the day of their engagement shoots or their showers.  Gives them an opportunity to get dolled up & make sure they love their looks in photographs too!
MUA1.jpg

Do you travel to the bride's venue location?

"Yes I do! Always."

How do you get a feel for what look the bride is going for?

"I always ask first if they have a look in mind and if they do they usually show me a picture. If not I ask what they wear for make up on a daily basis, what style of dress they are wearing and what the theme of the wedding is. I can generally get a pretty good idea based on that information what look to go with."
MUA7.jpg

If the bride changes her mind about her bridal look, is there a charge for a re-trail?

"No."

Should the bride bring her veil and accessories to the trial?

"It's not necessary but if they would like to in order to better visualize the overall look they are more than welcome to do so!"
MUA3.jpg

Do you like the bride to do any prep before you work your magic? (IE: Moisturize, apply primer...)

"Always moisturize the morning of! It's a good idea to use a facial scrub the night before as well. I will apply a primer before applying make up and depending on their skin I may moisturize again as well."

How much am I investing as a Bride?

"I charge a flat fee."
MUA6.jpg

What sets you apart from other MUA in the area?

"Because I am a little bit newer to the industry I am more flexible with last minute bookings and I am willing to travel to the bride's home for not only the wedding, but also the trial. I love to enhance a person's natural beauty. So while I love to apply a false lash to any look, I also love a natural, flawless looking complexion that doesn't involve caking on too much product. This is something I feel I do very well."

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

"I love what I do! It doesn't feel like work when your job is making someone feel beautiful in their own skin. I'm excited to continue to grow and learn in this industry and I can't wait to meet more of my future brides!"

Fall Happenings.

Happy Monday!

It has finally cooled down quite a bit & it’s got me all excited for fall.  Both my kids are at camp this week and I’m so excited to get some work done and get some fall planning happening.

If you’ve been hanging around for a while you know that fall is one of my favourite time of years.  It’s the season that I started this crazy business in and I just love it.  The cooler evenings, hoodies, pumpkin spice everything and travelling for the store.  I adore fall.  This year my baby starts school.  I’m so torn between all kinds of feels – happy because I might actually have a solid 7 hours a day to work and sad, because how can she be old to start school?!  She's so excited to go and will be totally fine! {the ruling is still out for her mama tho}

What’s your favourite fall activity to do?  I’m most excited about apple picking & pie making {and eating too of course}.

Here’s some important fall dates for you to be in the know about:

-       Sarnia Bridal Show – Wednesday, August 31st – Quality Inn in Sarnia 6-9PM.  We’re super excited to once again participate in this bridal show – we’ll also be doing the fashion show.  {Wanna model for us?  We’d looking for a few more models of all sizes – email us at info@onceuponatimeweddings.ca}. More information about this show check out https://www.facebook.com/events/1631162767213018/

-        Saturday, September 17 & Sunday, September 18 – London Convention Centre Fall Bridal Show – Come stop by our booth or watch our gowns in the fashion show.  Doors open 12-5 both days.  For more information check out https://www.facebook.com/events/1086912041370165/

-       Wednesday, September 28th – Bridal Show in Exeter 6-9PM  There's no fashion show but there's going to be some ask the experts type opportunities for you to get some great information from local wedding vendors

-       Friday, October 14th Blackburn Radio Bridal Show at Holiday Inn in Sarnia 6-9PM.  This is a great and very busy bridal show.  Wear comfortable shoes, hit the bar first and stop by and say hi!

-       Sunday, October 30th – Huron Country Bridal Show - we're excited to be participating in this great show again.  For more information on this show https://www.facebook.com/events/481963422007058/

This fall I will also be heading to Chicago for Bridal Market.  I’m excited to hang out with other bridal store owners, scope out the latest trends in bridal and order our Spring stock for the store.  I’m also heading to Vegas in early October for a conference and to speak to other bridal stores on managing your bridal store’s inventory.  I’m excited and a bit nervous as I’m really an introvert!  This will definitely take me outside of my normal comfort zone, but I’m excited for the opportunity and for the chance to broaden my skill base.  I'll also be heading to a conference at the end of October in Orange Beach, Alabama.  Super excited about that one too, because I've never been to Alabama and it's fun to hang out with other store owners!

This fall we’re also planning another fundraiser for Strathroy & area.  We’re super excited to present a fashion show on Friday, October 21st at the Seniors Centre in town.  We’ll be showcasing some bridal & bridesmaids gowns and raising money for local families to send their kids to camp next summer.   For more information on this event https://www.facebook.com/events/689843524506744/

Be Beautiful!

- Erin Bouchard

Owner of Once Upon A Time Weddings

Spotlight On A Wedding Vendor {Soul Photography}

One of the greatest things about owning a bridal store is the opportunity to meet other local wedding vendors. Over the next few months Once Upon A Time Weddings will be highlighting some of these professionals in our Spotlight On A Wedding Vendor blog posts.

Our first Spotlight On A Wedding Vendor will feature Wendy Hord of Soul Photography. Soul Photography is based out of Lucan, ON and offers Boudoir, Engagement and Wedding Day photography to brides all over Southwestern Ontario. I have had the privilege of working with Wendy on a couple of photo shoots and adore her eye for detail, her artistic and fun loving personality and the beautiful moments she captures. Wendy is very passionate about weddings and that is definitely portrayed when you work with her and view her images.

According to Wendy of Soul Photography, the best part of being a wedding photographer is the opportunity to constantly create and capture images, people and their special events, in new ways and in different locations on a continual basis. “It’s like being an author and an illustrator of my couples love stories“, says Wendy. I asked her if she could give our brides a couple of mistakes to avoid when looking at & booking wedding photography for your big day. Here’s what she had to say…

1/ FAILING TO MEET UP WITH YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER (consult):

This is certainly not a step to skip. Along with availability, a great package and talent your photographer needs to be a good fit for you both as a couple. Personality, professionalism and enthusiasm are a must, as your photographer is the one professional that will be working closely with you for the entire Wedding Day.

2/ FAILING TO PAY DEPOSIT TO SECURE DATE: This sounds bizarre but I see this happening on a weekly basis on social media where brides are frantically searching for a new photographer 2 weeks before the big day. I cant even image how much stress this would bring on!! I have a hunch this happens to brides once the photographer says that they are available and that they would love to work together etc…in the brides minds its like “Phew!” that’s done, marks it in her calendar,…but then fails to connect and firm things up with the photographer (ie deposit and signed contract which makes the date booked).

3/ NOT STICKING TO A TIMELINE: Like I said, my clients are amazing with timelines…likely because at our first initial consult I talk about this and impress how important a timeline is and how it really dictates how smooth, efficient, and fun it can make your Wedding Day…(and we even add in little buffer times) so if the groom splits his pants or your bridesmaid forgets the brides purse…its all good we will have a few minutes to run back) Bottom line is create one with your photographer right off the start…even Wedding Planners recommend, and strongly encourage this as their talent and services ride strongly on a good timeline and details as well.

4/ FAILING TO DELEGATE TASKS: This can happen to any couple even an assertive bride or groom, because planning a Wedding can at times be such information/task overload it gets over looked when the bride and groom are running out of steam for planning. Thanks to my first ever Wedding, my Bride Jacqui gave me the pleasure of working with and shooting “the perfect” Wedding in every way and it all came down to organization and delegating and a positive attitude. I talk about this with my couples at initial consult and also add a reminder in our meeting a couple of weeks before the big day. So brides…Do ask and kindly delegate tasks/errands/responsibilities to your Wedding Party, friends or family that you know you can rely on. Even simple things can make all the difference (bringing balloons to the photo location, moving the cooler to the limo, making sure your luggage gets into the vehicle you will be taking to the hotel that night etc). This works to free up the couples minds on the big day and lets them just enjoy their celebration, and even take a moment to relax, laugh and converse with each other without having a mind cluttered with virtual sticky notes!

One of the best parts of Soul Photography’s services is that Wendy provides a primary (all inclusive type) Wedding Photo package which includes your engagement session...and UNLIMITED hours of coverage, and UNLIMITED images on your big day, plus all images on USB & on-line digital album for viewing, sharing and downloading (both web and print sized files included). This ensures that she will capture all the great moments and candid shots as well.
